Memorial High School Millville, New Jersey February 17, 1961 Dear Parents: I want to tell you a bit more about our forthcoming Washington Trip so that you know what we will be doing and where we can be reached. ITINERARY ---- Tuesday, May 9 Buses will be provided from Millville to Wilmington. Leave Wilmington 8:38 a.m. Arrive Washington, Union Station 10:20 a.m. 1:30 p.m. – Leave Washington enroute Annapolis. 4:45 p.m. – We Drive to Baltimore. 6:30 p.m. – Leave Baltimore, Old Bay Line Steamer. Wednesday, May 10 6:00 a.m. – Breakfast on the steamer. 8:00 a.m. – Motor coach sightseeing through Norfolk, then to Jamesburg and Williamsburg. 6:30 p.m. – Leave Baltimore, Old Bay Line Steamer. Thursday, May 11 6:30 a.m. – Breakfast on the steamer. 8:00 a.m. – Leave Baltimore by bus for Washington, D.C. for guided tour. 10:30 a.m. – Tour continues to tomb of the unknowns. 12:30 p.m. – Luncheon. 1:30 p.m. – Continuation of tour to Washington Monument, Smithsonian Institute, Army Medical Center, National Art Gallery, etc. 5:00 p.m. – Buses leave for the National Gallery of Art. 6:00 p.m. – Leave Washington, Union Station. Dinner in the Pennsylvania Railroad Dining Car. 7:45 p.m. – Arrive Wilmington. Buses will be provided from Wilmington to Millville. RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. At no time may a boy visit a girls cabin on the steamer; nor may any girl visit a boys cabin. 2. We will expect quiet on the boat after a reasonable hour. When this will be will depend on the number of people on the boat who are not in our group; it will also depend on the rules of the boat. Generally speaking, however, quiet will prevail after midnight. 3. There will be two or three people in each cabin. One student in each group will Be responsible for the key to the room. 4. Students must be prompt to the dining room and to ALL appointments. 5. Boys must wear coats and ties at all times; girls must wear stockings.
-- 2 -- 6. There is to be NO drinking of alcoholic beverages at anytime; nor is any alcoholic beverages to be in the possession of any student. 7. Firecrackers may not be in a student’s possession; nor may they be used. 8. There is to be no smoking on the buses; nor is any student to smoke in public buildings. In other words, when there are NO SMOKING signs, we will obey them. Students must not smoke in there cabins after “LIGHTS OUT”. Here are a few other suggestions that might prove helpful. 1. Luggage tags will be provided. Be sure the student’s name and address are clearly written on the tags. 2. Students are urged to bring no more than $10.00 for personal use. All expenses for the trip have been paid in advance. 3. Students should bring towel, wash cloth, and soap in the event the steamer does not provide these items. 4. Students should bring only one suitcase, plus a train case. Students will not have access to their suitcase after we leave Baltimore. Suitcases will be left on the steamer on the second day; and they will also not be available the third day until we get to the Union Station in Washington. 5. Students are to bring a box lunch the first day. The chaperones and I are looking forward to a wonderful trip. We hope that it will be a fitting climax to your child’s school career. We do not anticipate problems. How ever, I would appreciate your going over the contents of this paper with your child and signing and returning the slip at the bottom. Cordially, MICHAEL N.
